Hey,
I have trouble deciding which job I should choose…..very hectic for me.
Either one at Laserquest, or one at a superstore as a cashier.
When I submitted my resume to Laserquest, they seemed pretty interested in me, so I am not sure if I should choose this job…..by the way, I applied for an activity coordinator and a crew person.
As for the cashier job at Loblaws, I am not sure whether I should take it. I heard it pays about $8.50 an hour, but I would like to work for 8 hour shifts. Like is this going to be tiring? Will I get a lot of breaks or just one or two?
Please also keep in mind that I will be volunteering at the same time, on Mondays and Tuesdays, so I am really confused….however, I don’t want to quit my volunteering position.
Please help!!…..suggestions, opinions, comments will be appreciated….all of them!!
A warm thank-you goes to you for your help!!
Since both of these positions are in retail, it will likely not be a set schedule (9-5 M-F for example). However, that also means they can probably work around your volunteer schedule.
Cashiering can be boring. You stand in the same place, press the same buttons, and handle the same goods the entire time.
The activity coordinator is probably the least boring. You will have lots of different things you will have to do.
Typically, most retail employers will allow you the mandatory breaks but nothing more. This means every 4 hours you get a 15 minute break, and a 30 minute lunch after 4 hours. For example, if you worked 3.5 hours you could get one 15 minute break. If you work 4.5 hours, you would get one 30 minute lunch break. If you work 8 hours, you would get one 30 minute lunch break, and one 15 minute break.
It doesn’t sound like a lot of breaks, and it isn’t. But that’s why it is called "work" and not "play".
Hope this helps, and good luck!
Hi There!
Let me see if I can help you on this. First of all you need to sit down and thnk about whether you are a people person and don’t mind kids or crowds. At the cashier job, keep in mind that you may be alone in there most of the time behind the counter, unless you have someone working with you. Personally, I’d take the job at lasarquest because it seems more fun and will probably keep you active all day, plus think of all the people you can meet! Good luck!

Okay..one of the best suggestions I could make..is to write out the pro and cons of each position. I’ve done this with every single position I’ve taken, and it had never proved wrong.
Once you have decided on your position, inform your employer up front that you volunteer on Monday’s and Tuesday’s. If he or she has a problem with that..then you may want to consider the other position. I don’t think they will as a lot of employers see volunteering as a plus.
As for your 8 hour shifts, in most states, if you work 8 hours you receive an hour lunch and 2 15 minute breaks. As with any cashier position you are going to be on your feet, so think about that.
I hope this helps and good luck with any position you decide to take!!
